Water and God – Food and Saints

Water is essential to human beings, plants, animals and for all the living beings. None of the living beings can claim to live life without water and neither it is possible to think of a world without water. Everyday of life, human being thirsts for water and quenches the thirst by drinking water. As human being cannot live without water, so to the human being cannot live with out God. For example, a Christian must say ‘I cannot live without thirsting for Jesus’, a Hindu must say, ‘I cannot live without thirsting for Rama or Krsna’, a Muslim must say ‘I cannot live without thirsting for Muhammad.’ Human beings thirst for water everyday and so to the human being must thirst for God every day. As the thirst for water ceases at the death, the thirst for God also must cease at the death.
Food is important but not essential. There are instances where life is lived without food for great number of days. It is no doubt that food enriches human life and helps in the growth of the individual person. It is necessary that I have water when I eat food but not at all necessary to have food when I drink water. So to, praying and talking to saintly people enriches life and helps in the growth of the individual person. More importantly, the food must help human being to think of God always.
In the end, water and food, both are important for life.
